Determination of Renal Blood Flow Rates with Para-aminohippuric acid and Iodohippurate-¥°^(131)

Abstract
The traditional renal clearance test has many technically difficult problems such as bladder catheterization, difficulties in detecting the concentration of substance in plasma and urine, blood sampling. The
radioisotope has advanced various medical fields including renal function studies with advantages of the ease, simplicity and safety.
Comparative analyses were made among results of conventional renal clearance tests by using the para-
aminohippuric acid, inulin and iodohippurate-1191 in 30 normal male rabbits and following results were obtained.
1. The mean value of pars-aminohippuric acid clearance (CPAH) Was 6.065.37 (MeanS. D. ) ml/ min, 58.5236.96mt/min/m3 in 15 rabbits. Among them, simultaneously determined mean value of inulin clearance (Cin) was 2.281.55 ml/min, 14.6410.04m1/min/m3 in 8 rabbits. Filtration fraction (Cln/CPAH) was 25.9119.31%.
2. The mean value of iodohippurate-I131 blood clearance was 16.66 ¢¥8_. 05ml/min, 11.0.0156.5m_/min/ m3 in another 15 rabbits.
Among them, simultaneously determined mean value of iodohippurate-1131 plasma clearance was 10.13
2.6ml/min, 66.6411.3ml/min/m3 in 7 rabbits. The ratio of iodohippurate-1131 plasma clearance/CPAH was about 1. L
3. The comparative analysis between. iodohippurate-I131 blood clearance and CPAH/1-Hct showed a considerable similarity. The whole blood determination for the iodohippurate-Ilsl was valid and could
be substituted for the conventional plasma determinations, thus simplifying the laboratory procedure further.
